The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today re-signed kicker Ryan Succop. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Succop (6-2, 218) converted 28-of-31 field goals (90.3 percent) in the regular season for Tampa Bay in 2020, securing the second-best single-season field goal percentage of his career and the second-best single-season mark in franchise history. His 136 points scored, 80 total kicks made and 52 extra points made during the regular season were all the most in a single season in team history. Succop finished the season tied for second in the NFL in total kicks made, tied for fourth in extra points made, sixth in points scored and tied for ninth in field goals made.
Building on his regular season performance, Succop went a perfect 9-for-9 on field goals in the Buccaneers run to a Super Bowl LV victory, while connecting on 12-of-13 extra point attempts. For his career, Succop is a perfect 13-of-13 on postseason field goal tries and 21-of-22 on postseason extra points. He is one of just five kickers in NFL postseason history to have never missed a field goal in the playoffs while attempting 10 or more. His 39 points scored, 21 total kicks made and nine field goals made all marked the most by a player in a single postseason in franchise history. The 39 points are also tied for the second-most by a kicker in a single postseason in NFL history, while his nine field goals made are tied for the third-most all time in a single postseason run.
Over his 12 seasons in the NFL, Succop has made 264-of-318 field goals attempted (83.0 percent) and 390-of-405 extra point tries (96.3 percent). He has won Special Teams Player of the Week honors seven times over his career, including twice in 2020, and was also named Special Teams Player of the Month in September of 2017.
Succop entered the league as a seventh-round selection (No. 256 overall) by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2009 NFL Draft. He played his first five seasons in Kansas City (2009-13) prior to spending the next six seasons with the Tennessee Titans (2014-19) and signing his original contract with Tampa Bay during the 2019 offseason.
The Hickory, North Carolina, native played collegiately at South Carolina. He wears No. 3 for Tampa Bay.
