The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today signed running back Owen Wright to its practice squad and released guard Sua Opeta from the team's practice squad.
Wright (5-11, 225) previously signed with the Buccaneers on July 31, 2025, and spent the remainder of training camp with Tampa Bay before being waived on August 26, 2025. In the preseason, he led Tampa Bay in both rushing yards (100) and yards from scrimmage (112), contributing one rushing touchdown.
Wright entered the league as a college free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, spending his first season on the Ravens' practice squad and the 2024 season on Baltimore's Injured Reserve list. He played collegiately at William & Mary (2017–20) and Monmouth University (2021–22), totaling 45 career games played and 355 carries for 1,403 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. Wright was named first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association following his 2022 season at Monmouth in which he recorded 72 carries for 304 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is the grandson of former NFL player Brig Owens. The Bethesda, Maryland, native will wear No. 49 for Tampa Bay.
