The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, 44-32, to fall to 6-4 on the season. The Buccaneers had the lead on five different occasions in the game, including a 32-31 edge early in the fourth quarter before the Bills scored the last two touchdowns of the shootout.

First things first: Yes, this was a "scorigami." That is, Sunday's result marked the first time in NFL history that a game ended in a 44-32 score. Incredibly, even though the Buccaneers and Bills have met only 14 times in their respective histories, this is not the first scorigami the two have combined to create. On December 4, 1988, the Buccaneers beat the Bills, 10-5, in what remains the only such final score in NFL annals.

Third-year running back Sean Tucker had a big game for the Bucs' offense, rushing 19 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns and adding 34 yards and a score on two receptions. He is the first Buccaneer to score three touchdowns in a game since Mike Evans accomplished the feat against Carolina on January 1, 2023, and he's the first Bucs running back with a three-TD outing since Leonard Fournette against the Colts on November 28, 2021. Overall, it was the 17th game in franchise history with an individual three (or more)-touchdown performance and he is the 13th Buccaneer to do it. Tucker joined Fournette (11/28/21), Doug Martin (10/11/15) and Bobby Rainey (11/17/13) as the only players in franchise history with multiple touchdown runs and a touchdown catch in a single game.

Tucker's 106 rushing yards and 140 yards from scrimmage were both the second-highest single-game totals of his career, behind a huge performance in New Orleans last season on October 13 in which he ran for 136 yards, had 192 total yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns. His outing on Sunday in Buffalo marked the Bucs' first individual 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Overall, Tampa Bay's offense ran for 202 yards, it's top mark of the season and the best since it had the same total against the Panthers in Week 17 of last season. That included 136 yards in the first half, the Bucs' highest opening-half rushing total since they ran for 143 yards in the first two quarters against San Francisco on October 23, 2016. Sunday's game marked just the fifth time in team history, and the first since the 2013 season, that the Buccaneers ran for 200-plus yards but did not secure the victory.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield, who had been dealing with knee and oblique injuries in recent weeks, also contributed to the rushing attack with five carries for 39 yards and a touchdown. Mayfield had 158 rushing yards through the first six games of the season but had not even attempted a run in the Bucs' three previous outings combined. His runs against the Bills included a four-yard touchdown on a designed zone-read on fourth-and-one and three scrambles that converted third downs. On the season, Mayfield has run the ball on third down 14 times and 12 of those plays have resulted in first downs. Among all NFL quarterbacks with at least 10 third-down runs in 2025, Mayfield has the highest conversion rate.

Highest Third-Down Conversion Rate on Runs, NFL Quarterbacks, 2025

(minimum 10 attempts)

Jaxson Dart Giants 13 19 68.4%
Josh Allen Bills 14 21 66.7%
Lamar Jackson Ravens 8 12 66.7%

Mayfield also completed 16 of 28 passes for 173 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the game, in the process increasing his passing yardage total as a Buccaneer to 10,909. With just 32 more passing yards he will pass Brad Johnson for the seventh most in franchise history. Mayfield ranks third in franchise history with 86 touchdown passes, behind only Jameis Winston (121) and Tom Brady (108). His third-quarter interception on Sunday was just his third of the season and he ranks second in Buccaneers history in touchdown-interception ratio.

Mayfield's favorite target on Sunday in Buffalo was rookie wideout Emeka Egbuka, who had nine passes thrown in his direction, resulting in five catches for 40 yards. That increased Egbuka's season total to 717 receiving yards, the 12th most by any player in the NFL through Sunday's games. Egbuka is second among all NFL rookies in receiving yards in 2025.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen led the home team to victory with an MVP-caliber performance, throwing three touchdown passes and also running for three more scores. He is the only player in NFL history to record three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a regular season, now having accomplished the feat twice. The Buccaneers' defense did pick Allen off twice after he had thrown just five interceptions in the Bills first nine games. Both rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish and third-year linebacker SirVocea Dennis secured the first interceptions of their respective careers.

Parrish also posted two tackles for loss to give him seven on the season. He is now second among all NFL defensive backs in TFLs this season, and is tied for the most among all rookies at any position. Parrish is the first NFL rookie defensive back since Seattle's Devon Witherspoon in 2023 to record seven or more tackles for loss, multiple sacks and an interception in a single season.
