Of the 122 sacks that Simeon Rice collected during his illustrious NFL career, 121 came when he was wearing the uniforms of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals. It is fitting, then, that both franchises will be represented when Rice takes his place in the Buccaneers' Ring of Honor at Raymond James Stadium this fall.
Rice will become the 16th member of the Ring of Honor on the afternoon of Sunday, November 30. His induction ceremony will take place during halftime of the Buccaneers' game against the visiting Cardinals at Raymond James Stadium. Kickoff for the game is currently scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
Rice, the third-overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft, had 51.5 sacks for the Cardinals over five seasons before joining the Buccaneers as one of the most significant free agent acquisitions in franchise history. He immediately treated his new team to five straight seasons of double-digit sacks and over an eight-year period (1998-2005) produced a league-leading 101.5 sacks, edging out such contemporaries as Pro Football Hall of Famers Michael Strahan and Jason Taylor.
By joining the Buccaneers, Rice proved to be the final piece to the puzzle in putting together one of the greatest defenses in NFL history. That defense peaked in 2002, leading the NFL in a wide variety of categories, including fewest points and yards allowed per game, and powering the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl championship. Rice led the team that season with 15.5 sacks and then added four more in the playoffs, including two in the Super Bowl XXXVII win over the Oakland Raiders.
Rice will become the first person inducted into the Buccaneers' Ring of Honor since Head Coach Bruce Arians in the 2022 season and the first player to join that exclusive group since Rondé Barber in 2019. The other members in the Ring of Honor are Lee Roy Selmon, John McKay, Jimmie Giles, Paul Gruber, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Mike Alstott, Doug Williams, John Lynch, Malcolm Glazer, Jon Gruden, Tony Dungy and Monte Kiffin.
