TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 12-18-23

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On why the offense has performed better on the road than at home this season)

"The biggest thing for us is to be able to put more points up than the other team. If we have 15 [points] and they have 14 [points], then I'm happy. You want to play better. You want to score points – that's the name of the game. Lately, the way we've been winning [with] team football – offense, defense, special teams – however we can get a win, we can win. We're not worried about how many points we score, just more than the other team."

(On what he can say about the consistency of the offense against the Green Bay Packers)

"It was great to see everything clicking over there. You know, the run game [was] going, the pass game [was] going, [and] the ball [was] spread around. It was great to finally see some consistency over there. They've been putting it together for a couple of weeks now and it finally came to fruition."

(On if he has noticed a common theme in the last three wins)

"No, [we are] just finishing ballgames, correcting mistakes, [and] cutting out large penalties. Blocking assignments have been better, [we are] not giving up the deep ball, just playing better football."

(On the report that he told LB K.J. Britt that Britt was going to start against the Packers)

"Did I?"

(On clarification that the reporter believes Bowles did inform Britt that)

"No, I didn't."

(On clarification that Bowles did not inform Britt that he was going to start against the Packers)

"Devin [White] told me Friday he couldn't play – or Saturday or Friday that he couldn't play – so K.J. was starting. That was the end of it."

(On if White informed Bowles that he couldn't play in response to Bowles informing him that Britt was going to start)

"No."

(On if Britt or White will be the starting linebacker moving forward)

"When Devin gets healthy, we'll rotate the players and see how it goes."

(On if he was surprised that White said he couldn't play considering he had a full week of practice)

"No, not surprised. I get guys all the time – [Josh] Hayes got sick on the bus, he couldn't play. I mean, you go with the guy's gut. If he tells you he can't go, you go with the next guy and you play."

(On if he's concerned that White's injury will linger for the remainder of the season)

"It's something he's got to deal with. I'm not a doctor, so I can't really say how he feels or how he doesn't feel. The next guys have to step up – we've been doing it all year. We just keep rolling."

(On if White will have to get his injury addressed in the offseason)

"That I do not know."

(On White having played on his foot injury previously and if White aggravated the injury some time over the last few weeks)

"That I'm not sure of. Usually, as a coach, you go with the guys that say they can play. The guys that can't play, they get treatment and then they get healthy."

(On if he's surprised that White said he was unable to play, given the importance of the game and the fact that he's a captain)

"No, not if they're injured. If they're injured and they say they can't go, what else are you going to do? You play ball. I've had captains hurt, I've had backups hurt. Some say they can go, some say they can't. That's about all there is."

(On how LB K.J. Britt has performed over the last two games)

"He's played well. He's played well. Obviously, we know what he can do. He [had] his chance while he [was] in there, he took advantage of the opportunity, and we like where he is at."

(On what he thinks the defense did to stop the Green Bay Packers run game)

"Just guys making plays. Just guys making plays. When you get lead – we haven't had a lead too many times – [when] you [have] a lead you can play and you make people pass more, that helps out too."

(On how QB Baker Mayfield's performance impacted his future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

"I'm sure that will be an offseason conversation probably, but I love where he is at right now. I loved him when he came in, not just because of the game he played yesterday. [He is] very smart, very tough, knows where to go with the football, very mature where he is as far as getting his reads, and getting everybody in the right place. I mean, me personally, I really like where the guy is at."

(On why White's status was not updated on Saturday when the team put out an update on the status of S Ryan Neal and NT Vita Vea)

"I don't talk to the media [on Saturdays]. I talked to the media Friday afternoon. I wasn't available for that information until later that day, or that evening. I don't talk to the people until the next day. We'll see. If he gets better, he usually plays. It's usually when guys get sick – [Josh] Hayes was the same way, he was out. We keep people down sometimes, that's just the way it goes."

(On the team adding DB Josh Hayes to the injury report prior to inactives being announced and if the status change for LB Devin White was not communicated properly)

"It didn't have to be communicated because there was nothing to communicate. He practiced on Friday, he practiced on Thursday, and he said he couldn't go Saturday morning. That was the end of it."

(On what he has seen from the offense during the team's winning streak)

"[They are] just jelling together. The [wide] receivers knowing exactly where to be, audibles are on time, offensive line playing together – nobody is really missing a bunch of blocks right now. The confidence has grown, as a group, as the season went on. (Offensive Coordinator) Dave [Canales] is comfortable with them, they're comfortable with Dave. The adjustments, the roles everybody has, and moving people around. I think they've grown very comfortable with that and that's kind of helped us out a lot."

(On if LB Devin White traveled with the team to Green Bay)

"Yeah, he was there."

(On why Tampa Bay's offense has been better on third down, and specifically on third-and-short this year)

"That's a good question. [It is] just execution really. Execution, being able to execute third-and-manageable. Dave has done a great job mixing things up, keeping people off balance, and that takes a lot of work. The offensive staff, as a whole, has really done a good job – when we get to those down and distances – done a good job at executing."

(On if resiliency is one of QB Baker Mayfield's best traits considering how well he played after fumbling the ball early on Sunday)

"He has that trait and I think everybody needs to have that trait. If you play football, whether it's bad play – a quarterback, a DB (defensive back), a lineman – you [have] to have the resilience to come back. I think he never broke stride. He [understood] what happened on the play, they [had] a turnover, [and] they [had] a touchdown. It was early in the game, no need to get down. We've been through some ups and downs this season, so we've come out on the other side of them, and everybody stayed the course."

(On if WR David Moore has put himself in the conversation to be the third wide receiver on the depth chart)

"I mean, we still [have] [Trey] Palmer there. Moore is a good help. He can make some plays all over the place, he can move around, he [has] experience in the offense, he [has] experience, he can play, he [has] great hands, and he's a good utility guy for us. We rotate guys in and out depending on the packages, but he's a big part of that."

(On if he knows if CB Carlton Davis III, DL William Gholston, or S Ryan Neal will practice this week and play on Sunday)

"Not at this time. I'll probably have a better answer on Wednesday."

(On the growth he has seen from Offensive Coordinator Dave Canales and how he has helped the offense)

"Really, just staying the course. Dave is very positive guy, very bright guy, excellent teacher. The coaches around him are really excellent teachers. They do a good job staying the course. If something doesn't work, they know why, how, when – they can fix it, they can correct the mistakes, they can teach it to the players to adjust it and trust them to do the right thing. Over the course of the year, you learn a few things calling plays. Preseason, regular season, it doesn't matter – throughout your whole career, you're going to learn things. He's quick learner, he adjusts with himself, he adjusts with the team, and he's making all the right calls."

(On if he senses the team building momentum)

"I would say it's more urgency and momentum is coming with winning. The urgency is there. We know we have to win out to get to the playoffs, that's been our mindset since we played the Carolina [Panthers], [and] that's our mindset this week, as well, against a good Jacksonville team."
