Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Avoid Interceptions, Win Games | By the Numbers, Week 17

The Buccaneers are in must-win mode heading into a Week 17 game against Miami, and their results this season suggest that one of the keys to getting a victory is to avoid throwing any interceptions

by the numbers

The 7-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to Miami in Week 17 to take on a 6-9 Dolphins team in a game the visitors need to win to stave off the potential of elimination from the playoff race. The game is scheduled for Sunday, December 28, with kickoff at 1:00 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. This is the Buccaneers' final game of 2025 against an AFC opponent after going 2-2 in the previous four.

Here are some additional numbers to know about the state of the Buccaneers and their 16th game of the 2025 campaign:

7

The number of Buccaneers games in 2025 that have been decided by three or fewer points, tied with the 1979 team for the most such contests in a single season in franchise history. The Buccaneers won the first five of those three-point decisions but have lost the last two, including last week's 23-20 defeat in Charlotte that allowed the Panthers to take over first place in the NFC South.

8

The number of games, out of 15, in which the Buccaneers have not thrown an interception, as quarterback Baker Mayfield has essentially cut his turnovers in half from last season. The Buccaneers are 7-1 in those games. However, they are 0-7 when the opposing defense does manage to secure an interception.

12

The number of seasons, out of his 14 in the NFL so far, in which Lavonte David has surpassed the 100-tackle mark, as he leads the 2025 Bucs with 105 stops. David's 12 100-tackle seasons are the third most by any player in the NFL since the 2000 season. The Buccaneers legend has also now joined Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks as the only two players in franchise history to surpass 1,700 career tackles.

63

The number of quarterback pressures recorded this season by Buccaneers outside linebacker Yaya Diaby, according to NFL Next Gen Stats, which ranks seventh in the NFL, just behind leading NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate Myles Garrett (65). Against Carolina in Week 16, Diaby racked up nine pressures on 28 pass-rush snaps, a 32.1% pressure rate that was the second highest of his career in a single game.

101

The number of yards amassed by Buccaneers wide receiver Kameron Johnson three kickoff returns against the Panthers in Week 16. His returns of 44 and 39 yards were the two longest of the season for the Bucs this year and both set up scoring drives. Johnson is trying to become the first Buccaneer since Micheal Spurlock in 2010 to return a kickoff for a touchdown.

101.3

The number of rushing yards allowed per game by the Buccaneers' defense this season, the seventh-best mark in the NFL. That rush defense will be tested in Week 17 by a Dolphins offense that runs through running back De'Von Achane. Achane ranks third in the NFL with 1,267 yards and first among qualifying runners with an average of 5.76 yards per carry.

107

Mike Evans' career total of touchdown receptions after his one-yard score on a fade against Carolina last Sunday. Since injuries have limited him to six games so far this season, that was only the second touchdown of the season for the future Hall of Famer, but it drew him closer to another move up the NFL's all-time list in that category. His 107 touchdown receptions currently ranks 10th all time and he is just four behind Hall of Famer Antonio Gates for ninth place.
