Through the years, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders have entertained and uplifted people all over the globe.

The consummate location for a Buccaneers Cheerleader, of course, is on the sidelines at Raymond James Stadium, igniting home team enthusiasm for tens of thousands of fans.  However, these dedicated women have also represented the Buccaneers at countless team gatherings, impacted the community at innumerable charitable events, participated in professional calendar shoots and even spread cheer to U.S. troops in such far-flung locales as Japan and the Middle East.

That's a lot.  And that could be you.  Click here for more information.

Auditions for the 2011-2012 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleading squad begin this Sunday, May 1, at One Buccaneer Place, the team's state-of-the-art headquarters.  At the end of the tryout process, up to 34 enthusiastic and talented women will be selected to represent the Buccaneers for the next year.

Candidates must be 18 years or older by July 1, 2011 and must have a high school diploma or a G.E.D. by that date, as well.  If you meet that criteria and are interested in the opportunity, no matter you're level of dance or cheer experience, the Buccaneers urge you to go for it.  Each year, the team's hugely popular cheerleading squad is comprised of a mix of knowledgeable veterans and talented newcomers.  No matter the background, Buccaneer cheerleaders invariably find the experience to be life-changing and unforgettable.

Sunday's opening session is a preliminary/open call audition.  It begins at 11:00 a.m. at One Buc Place – which is located at 3302 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. – and is expected to last until 2:30 p.m. There is a $30 pre-registration fee to audition. Those not pre-registered must pay a $40 application fee on the day of auditions.  The team strongly recommends that auditioners pre-register for the open call.

For the past month, the Buccaneers have held optional workouts and dance classes at several Bay area locations, all designed to help prospective cheerleaders be as prepared as possible for the actual tryouts.  That effort will continue this week, with pre-audition dance/technique classes to be held at the Westchase location on Wednesday and at the South Tampa location on Thursday. The classes are non-mandatory sessions that cover basic dance techniques, NFL-style choreography and kick line drills. Participants may attend one or both of the remaining workshops. For more information on these two classes, please click here.

There is a $15 fee for each technique class and a $30 fee for each dance class. Participants will only pay a $40 fee if taking both a technique and dance class on the same night.

This year, all phases of the audition process will be held at One Buccaneer Place.  The 2011-2012 tryouts will also include a fitness assessment.  Most importantly, this year's tryouts will identify those talented women who will best represent the Buccaneers at home games, at events throughout the Bay area and even potentially overseas.  If that sounds like you're calling, the Buccaneers have just three words for you:

Go for it.
