TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 11-11-22

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On the team's practice in Germany)

"Practice was good. It's a great experience, a great atmosphere. It gives the guys a chance to see something different – at the same time, focus on the ballgame and go out and play."

(On the status of S Antoine Winfield Jr.)

"It's good – Antoine is ready to go. He passed protocol, he's been practicing all week, so he's good to go."

(On the status TE Cameron Brate)

"He's had a good week of practice. We're going to see how he feels on Sunday [and] we'll make that decision then."

(On if it will feel different playing in front of the crowd in Germany)

"It'll feel different just because of the flight, obviously. It's exciting because we haven't been out here this way, playing in a soccer stadium full of people – different crowd, obviously they'll be yelling throughout the whole ballgame. It'll be a good experience."

(On if he's asked QB Tom Brady not to kick the ball)

"We're going to try to make sure he doesn't kick the ball."

(On how he felt the team's flight went)

"I slept the whole way – I felt pretty good about it."

(On Seahawks QB Geno Smith)

"We knew Geno could always spin the ball. Obviously, the experience he's had over the years has helped him greatly. He was always smart, he was always heady, he was always a hard worker. I'm glad to see it pan [out] for him – I'm happy to see the success he's having."

(On the maturation of Smith since Bowles coached him in New York)

"It was a long time ago since I've had him. Obviously, he could always play the game – confidence was never a problem for him. You make a mistake in this league, you come back and you make some plays – he's done that. He's been good at it. He's been a great fit for [the Seahawks]."

(On if Bowles can use his time coaching Smith to help game plan for him)

"Not at all – you can't. [It was] a different system, different time, different place. He was different, I was different. He's playing well now, I'm in a different place now. It's good to see him playing well – hopefully not [Sunday], but other than that I like what he's doing."

(On the key to getting RB Leonard Fournette back on track)

"We've got to be executing better up front, obviously. We've got to execute better up front and we've got to get him rolling."

(On if the team's practices in Germany will be different than normal)

"We're trying not to have it any different. We'll have our walkthrough in the morning like we normally do. Hopefully guys between tonight and tomorrow can catch up on their sleep and be ready to go Sunday."

(On if playing the game in front of international fans will help provide additional energy)

"We need to bring our own energy and hopefully that energy as well will propel us to play even harder. We should be playing hard in the beginning – I think we will anyway. The crowd will be exciting to see."

(On QB Tom Brady saying the team's needs better effort on gamedays)

"I agree with it but it's not the effort I'm referring to…the effort is in the execution, so to speak – not in people loafing or doing anything like that. Doing the right things and executing the right way is the effort that we're talking about."

(On what he's going to do tomorrow)

"We'll have our walkthroughs in the morning, obviously we'll have the afternoon – guys get to wind down and relax, catch up on some sleep or grab something to eat and see the town a little bit [then] be ready to play on Sunday."

(On combatting the mental difficulty of playing a game in an atypical setting)

"It's sleep – you've got to get your rest. We're all professionals here – it'd be no different than flying out to the West Coast if we had to play in Seattle. That's a long flight in itself, as well. We understand that – coming over two days hopefully helps us get our sleep and [get] mentally focused. We should be fine."

(On if he's seen a change in this team coming off a victory last week)

"Not really, [we're] just determined to try and stack more. You've got to keep stacking them this time of year [and] keep winning."

(On how it has been since the team arrived in Germany)

"I think this has been great. Obviously, this is a great facility – I've seen it a lot on TV, haven't seen it much live. Coming out here and being in this type of atmosphere was good for the guys."

(On if he's watched a Bayern Munich game)

"I have watched a game."

(On if he has a favorite soccer player)

"I'm partial to [Lionel] Messi…that's who I watch."

(On what he expects from the crowd on Sunday)

"We just know it's going to be loud. I don't have expectations one way or the other – we know it's going to be a loud atmosphere and we're just trying to play well."

(On how G Nick Leverett is feeling)

"He's feeling a lot better than he did yesterday. He's got another day to get better so he should be okay."

QUARTERBACK TOM BRADY

(On what he knows about Munich)

"Not as much as I should – but that's a great soccer team and I've actually followed them for quite a while. But we're all just very excited to be here. It's a beautiful place and we just got in this morning. It's good to kind of move around a little bit and get ready for a game Sunday – it should be very exciting. I know the fans will be excited – I think the players are more excited. We want to go out there and do a great job."

(On what he's going to do on Saturday)

"I haven't decided yet – just trying to see maybe a little later today. [I'll] try to lay low – we're still here for a game, so maybe [I'll] have dinner and then just try to get my energy up and be ready to go on Sunday."

(On what the flight was like for him)

"I feel pretty good. I feel pretty good. I've felt a lot worse on transatlantic flights. That was a pretty nice one – we got right on the plane and slept pretty [well]. I'm in good shape."

(On his trainer Alex Guerrero helping him deal with the travel)

"Always, man. He's undefeated. He's done a great job."

(On how he has performed well in international games in the past)

"I think playing well is playing well – it doesn't matter where you're at, in which stadium or what country. For us, it's going to come down to how well we do our job. We talked about execution quite a bit lately. This is a good team – they're good in all three phases of the game. We're going to be challenged – they've got a lot of good skill players. Geno [Smith] is playing great, [they're] very well-coached, good team. We're going to have to bring our best."

(On discussing a 'lack of effort' on his podcast)

"What can we control? We can certainly control our attitude, our effort. I think everything has been below the line this year – we're 4-5…I don't think there's any reason to be happy about anything we've done. Obviously, we're not playing to our standards – we're not there from an effort standpoint, execution standpoint, emotional standpoint. We've got to figure it out – this is a good place to do it."

(On coping with different emotions this season)

"You just do the best you can do. You do the best you can do every day. That's what I've been trying to do – be the best I can be for my family, for my teammates. We all have our challenges – life is challenging for everybody. We just do our best."

(On if the Bucs playing in Munich was at least part of his reason for choosing to play in 2022)

"It's amazing. I told all my teammates that – you're not going to necessarily remember every game you play in your whole career, but these ones, you do remember. They're very special. Just to go to another place and have an experience like this…When I'm older, I'll be thinking about practicing in that stadium right there and then going to play in Allianz Arena, which is amazing. Your whole life is made of memories and experiences – to do it with the teammates and with the game that I love…football has brought me a lot of places in life and it's brought me to Germany now – I've never been here before. I'm definitely coming back."

(On how the game will be different than games back in America)

"I think there's going to be a lot of emotion by everybody. It's very exciting for everybody to be here – I know the fans will be excited. I think naturally there's going to be more energy for us. We're playing against a good team, so once the ball is kicked, off it's going to feel pretty normal – but it definitely doesn't feel like a regular season game. [It feels like] a little more than that."

(On if he has regrets about returning to football)

"Zero, no. Definitely not. I returned because I felt like I wanted to compete and I spoke to the team about it and they were excited to have me back. I don't really regret those types of things – I think when I commit to it, I mean it and I do my best and try to give everything I can to this particular opportunity. I think the frustrating part is we just haven't played to the way we're capable of playing – that's for a number of different reasons. This is a very important game for us – we have a bye week after this. It gives you a chance to kind of evaluate where you're at and I'd much rather evaluate being 5-5 than being 4-6. We've got to just win this game and it'll take care of that. Seattle is going to challenge us – they have very talented players, good skill players, they're good on defense…they're creating a lot of sacks and turnovers. It's a very good team – it's going to be a very tough, hard-nosed game."

(On how impressed he's been with the NFL expanding overseas)

"It's been amazing. I went to London in…2009 was the first time – it was different then. It was kind of pre-social media, so it was still kind of a big deal. I remember being in one of the press conferences early and it felt like there was a lot of excitement. It feels different now, because I think it's so easy to be a fan of Bundesliga soccer, because you see it all the time now – you see it on your phone, you get to know different players, it's very easy to follow people. It feels like the world has gotten a lot smaller. For us to be over here is really exciting and it should be a great environment for football."

(On if moments like the game-winning drive in Week Nine are still really special for him)

"Yeah, I think there's a lot of special things about playing. One part is obviously the games, I love playing the games. I love practicing, I love working out, I love communicating with my teammates and being in a leadership role. There's some aspects of playing, which are just the games, which yeah those are definitely enjoyable, but if you really love this sport you love everything about it. You love the preparation, you love the training for it. I think that's why I've been able to play so long, because it's never really felt like work. I felt like I've been able to do something I love to do for a long period of time. It's hard for me to believe I'm still playing at this age, but I enjoy it and I love competing. Certainly games like last week are reasons why we do do it, because there is a thrill of victory that's probably hard to replicate, you know, at home on your Xbox or something like that."

(On if his children asked him to bring back gifts from Munich)

"I'm going to bring them back some stuff, definitely. My daughter was very unhappy that she's not on the trip, so I promised her I'd bring her back. So, yeah, they definitely have some gifts coming back for them."

(On what kind of crowd he expects Sunday)

"So, my friend Sebastian Vollmer who I played with, one of the great German football players ever, he told me that the crowds for the soccer games here are the best in the world, so that's what I'm expecting. I expect it to be really loud and they'll be cheering all game. I'm sure they're a very educated group of fans. They probably know football quite a bit now, even though it's not played here professionally. It feels like there's some roots to football here, too."

(On if Sebastian Vollmer has been helping him out with his German speaking)

"No. I tried a while when I was with the Patriots and it didn't go over very well."

(On Vollmer putting him on the same level as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan)

"I just try to be the best I can be at my sport for my teammates and play the game with integrity and respect. I have a lot of respect for people who play this game because it's a big sacrifice, it's a big physical sacrifice. But in my view it's worth it because there's a lot you get out if too, and you meet a lot of cool people like Sebastian and a lot of other great teammates I've had over the years. Those are great, obviously, sporting legends. I just try to play the game as best I can."

(On Seahawks QB Geno Smith)

"He's making great decisions. He's passing the football very well; guys that are open, he's getting the ball to them. He hasn't had too many turnovers. He has enough athletic ability to extend some plays. I think they're doing a good job running the ball, throwing the ball. They've got DK [Metcalf], Tyler [Lockett] – they've got some really talented players. It's a very good football team. I've got a lot of history with Seattle, too."

(On if the Patriots ever considered playing him in an NFL Europe season in his early years)

"They never asked me to do that, the Patriots. I don't know if I was the hottest of prospects at the time. I actually made some improvements my first year. I think had I not made as many improvements maybe they would have, but I think Coach [Bill] Belichick saw me as kind of an emerging player so they kept me there to do all their training and their workouts with the team in the offseason. But I know guys who went over and had great experiences. Rohan Davey was another quarterback I played with; he actually played really well over here. He had a great when he wasn't playing, too, that's what I really remember."
