TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 8-20-25

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On balancing preparing for Week 1 as opposed to the final preseason game)
"You do that the entire summer. There's not a day that goes by without looking forward to that week, but still understanding that you have to get stuff done for the preseason games. You install stuff in hopes that it'll work week one every week and every day without them knowing it, but at the same time you still work on it."

(On Offensive Coordinator Josh Grizzard's play calling through two preseason games)
"That's hard because the first unit hasn't been out there a long time. As far as who's in the game and how he manages them – obviously we got a rookie quarterback that we got to manage as well…The play calling is a little different. Each situation in each game has been different for him. Tennessee, we hadn't had to go into those things; Pittsburgh, we had to go into two-minute, four-minute, whatever you may call it. The situations are different for him and he's handling it different ways, but he's been fine."

(On whether Grizzard has been on the field both games)
"Yes, he has."

(On if Grizzard might coach from the booth this week vs. Buffalo)

"We discussed it and we're still debating on it. I think he might like it down there, but he hasn't made a decision yet."

(On Outside Linebackers Coach/Run Game Coordinator Larry Foote's coaching style)
"I don't think I've seen him in shoulder pads in practice, unless it's an individual period. Larry is a very hands-on, player's coach. He's easy to understand. He yells a lot, but in a good way. He puts things in very simple terms for them where they can understand. He's not just good at teaching a certain guy or a smart guy. He can teach a guy on the field, he can teach a guy in the classroom, he can teach a guy about the film work, he can teach a guy in the notebook. So, that's what you call a very well-rounded coach, and we have quite a few of those."

(On WR Tez Johnson's involvement given injuries to wide receivers Chris Godwin Jr. and Jalen McMillan)
"Depends on how much he can learn. We still have to see him again against Buffalo. He got his feet wet last week and he's got to grasp the offense. He's been out for a while, so he's still on a learning curve right now. But we'll see how much he can take in and see how well he does on game day on Saturday."

(On WR Ryan Miller entering year three with the Buccaneers)
"Ryan is smart, he's reliable, he's tough, he has great hands, he's going to block when you need him to block, he's going to get open when you need him to get open, he's a very good special teams player. His confidence has grown from year one until now. Coming out of college as a free agent tight end and playing wide receiver, you see the toughness, but his work ethic has changed. I kind of knew he arrived when he cut his hair because he had been walking around a little crazy before, but now he's kind of settled in and become a little mini vet right now. So that's a good thing."

(On Miller's haircut showing his personal growth)
"It kind of shows growth as far as your experience in the league. I'm still waiting on Zyon [McCollum], but a couple guys have shown it."

(On T Benjamin Chukwuma's unique story and transition to football)
"I don't know [Jordan] Mailata's full story, but I know he hadn't played a lot of ball. But he's a very strong individual and he has very good skill set and tools for the position. It's just a matter of learning the game. I think when he learns it – and he can learn – he's going to be a very tough player and a very good football player. When he does it right, there's nothing prettier to watch. He's just got to keep getting the reps and keep growing and we feel like we have something to work with there."

(On losing WR Jalen McMillan for an extended period of time)
"That's tough from a coaching and a playing standpoint. He was doing so well coming back this summer. He was very polished, gets his routes, and he competes on a daily basis. [He is] real close with everybody on the team, so that was a big blow for us. Guys just have to step up. You don't want that to happen, especially in preseason. I don't think there's a good time for it to happen, but it's a shame because his growth and his potential was off the wall…But, [I'm] glad it's not life-threatening, glad he can come back later on. We just have to have guys ready."

RUNNING BACK BUCKY IRVING

(On Head Coach Todd Bowles comparing him to Wilt Chamberlain on jump ball throws)

"That is my mindset whenever the ball is in the air and I can make a play. I am willing to do whatever to come down with the ball."

(On his touchdown catch versus the Pittsburgh Steelers)

"Being able to trust the play call and trust the quarterback, knowing he is going to put the ball where it needs to be. For me, just being able to go out there -- we also walk through it -- and execute on the field, knowing we have a linebacker trying to press coverage [me], and then being able to have a quarterback that trusted me that I can go up and make a play."

(On his development in the passing game)

"I am always excited -- whatever I have to do to help this team win football games. Whether that is special teams, whether it is catching the ball out of the backfield or wherever they need me to be, I am going to be there. I want to be there for my team, and I want to win football games."

(On QB Teddy Bridgewater's impact since signing with the team)

"Teddy [Bridgewater] has been great. You always try and just let guys get in and get comfortable at who they are going to talk to and things like that. Being able to know his knowledge of the game, just being able to talk to him back there -- to see what he sees from quarterback's perspective. Great guy, all around guy, [he is] a guy that loves football. He is even a coach back in his hometown, giving back to the kids. You always want somebody like that -- someone who is willing to love the game and also give back to his community."

(On what he saw from WR Tez Johnson's debut versus the Pittsburgh Steelers)

"He played pretty well. He has got to stop thinking so much and just realize this is a game we have all played our whole life. I feel like once he just settles down and realizes this is a game we have played since we were kids, he will be on the right track and do a great job."

WIDE RECEIVER RYAN MILLER

(On how he feels the first two preseason games have gone)

"Obviously, the first game I felt like I had a really good game offensively, then the second game I know I contributed on special teams with a couple of tackles. Being able to show both sides of that, [I am] trying to help my case to make this 53-man roster."

(On what it is like working with Offensive Coordinator Josh Grizzard)

"I love [Offensive Coordinator] Josh [Grizzard], he is a fun presence to be around. Obviously, the offense will be kind of similar, schematic wise, we'll have different calls for some things. But [I] love [Offensive Coordinator] Josh [Grizzard], love working with him, he is a smart, smart guy and I'm excited to watch him call plays this year."

(On what he has done to grow his game from the beginning of his career)

"I think [my] consistency. I will say my rookie year, I don't think I was entirely ready to play in the NFL. I was still developing – because obviously, I played tight end in college so transitioning to NFL wide receiver, I guess was a little bit different for me, having to work against outside cornerbacks and stuff like that. But being consistent, working on my craft, I had a good offseason this past offseason, just working out. I would throw with Baker [Mayfield] about once or twice a week, so I was here prepping for the season."

(On what aspect of being a tight end in college and transitioning to the NFL as a wide receiver has helped him the most)
"I think blocking for sure. They say, 'Block first before you get the rock,' that has helped me a lot. I pride myself on my blocking – because blocking [defensive] ends and linebackers in college obviously helped me. I can block safeties and cornerbacks pretty easily, I feel like. Definitely blocking for sure."

(On WR Garrett Greene transitioning from quarterback to wide receiver)
"I love Garrett, he is awesome to be around, he is a fun guy. I love watching him grow, [with] him being a quarterback and transitioning to an NFL wide receiver is insane. He has done a great job, he does his job, you know what I mean. He is a great play maker and I hope we get to keep him around."
