Tristan Wirfs, one of the NFL's most heralded tackles, has been honored by his peers. He earned the 28th spot on the NFL Top 100 compilation, the NFL Films' countdown franchise. The Top 100 features three-to-five-minute episodes celebrating the league's Top 100 players as voted exclusively by current NFL players. Episodes began on June 30th and will continue to run weekdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ET on X and NFL+ through Friday, August 29.
Wirfs concluded the 2024 regular season with the 2nd-lowest pressure rate allowed (4.7%) among left tackles with at least 200 pass block snaps, down from the 8.0% pressure rate he recorded in 2023. The Iowa product did not allow a single pressure in four different games last season, the only player at his position to do so (min. 25 pass block snaps). Wirfs became the first player ever to earn Associated Press first-team All-Pro honors at both right and left tackle, garnering a rare feat for his play on the gridiron.
In 2024, Wirfs totaled 909 offensive snaps through Week 17, and per Pro Football Focus (PFF) metrics, yielded just one quarterback hit and 10 pressures, while not surrendering a single sack across 15 games played. PFF credited Wirfs with a 93.2 pass-blocking grade in 2024 – the highest among any qualified offensive lineman. Among all qualified tackles with 850-plus offensive snaps in 2024, Wirfs ranked fifth with an 84.0 overall offensive grade, per PFF. Wirfs also owns the lowest quarterback pressure rate (4.3%) and lowest one-on-one pressure rate (4.8%) among players with 500-plus pass-blocking snaps played last season, per the NFL's Next Gen Stats.
Since Wirfs was drafted in 2020, the Buccaneers rank third in the NFL in fewest sacks allowed per pass attempt (3.8%), in addition to allowing the fourth-fewest total sacks (146) during that span. In 2024, Wirfs anchored a Tampa Bay offense that ranked in the top five in points scored (29.7 per game), total yards (399.9), passing yards (252.6), rushing yards (147.3), first downs (23.4) and third down conversion percentage (50%).
Wirfs moved from right to left tackle in 2023 and continued his elite play in the trenches, setting the standard at the position in the league. He made the transition look effortless, the ultimate mark of a premier player. Wirfs' dominance is acknowledged by peers, as is his freaky athleticism. He stonewalls edge rushers and plays with outstanding core strength and stunning quickness out of his stance. The technician delivers a lethal punch and solidifies the Buccaneers' offensive line.
