What We Learned from Day Three of Bucs' Training Camp

Some observations from Day 3 of Bucs’ training camp as military members and their families got the first fan-look of the 2018 squad.

-Tight end and resident team Canadian Antony Auclair has become a reliable target on the second team. He's a big body and moves well. Backup quarterback Ryan Griffin connected with him in practice this morning on a crossing route where Auclair stretched out and made the grab.

-Wide receiver DeSean Jackson is known for his deep-ball capabilities but he's been very consistent through three days of training camp on more conservative throws. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick offered up a few slants today during practice. Jackson also had a nice catch in traffic on a similar route.

-Quarterback Jameis Winston seems to be taking advantage of his check-downs more and more. He's giving running backs some work at pass-catching in the process. Running back Jacquizz Rodgers hauled in two receptions from Winston on back-to-back underneath routes after the quarterback went through his progressions on each play, deciding that Rodgers was the safest option.

-Rookie linebacker Jack Cichy was in at middle linebacker with the second team today. Cichy sat out his last year in college while rehabbing an ACL injury. His first meaningful snaps of football came during rookie mini-camp. He seems to have spent a lot of time in the playbook, taking on those MIKE responsibilities for the 2s in camp today.

-Cornerback Ryan Smith has done a good job in tight coverage on the outside. Smith looks to be the go-to outside corner when cornerback Vernon Hargreaves rotates to the slot. Today, Hargreaves was kept out because of a leg laceration he suffered in practice yesterday so Smith was plugged in to the outside post with the first team. He managed a few good plays and played wide receiver Mike Evans well and with a ton of confidence.
