Tampa Bay Buccaneers

3 Players to Watch at Training Camp, August 8

A few players to keep an eye on during the Buccaneers' training camp practice on Tuesday.

**

  1. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick**
The battle for the Buccaneers' No. 2 quarterback job is heating up. Fitzpatrick had been working mostly with the Bucs' third-team offense, but stepped in with the twos on Monday and had a strong practice. Could Fitzpatrick be taking the third-team reps because of his experience, while the younger Griffin carries a heavier workload to continue to develop? It will be interesting to see who gets more snaps on Friday when the Buccaneers open up the preseason. Don't be surprised if it's Griffin.

  1. DT Chris Baker**
The Buccaneers have used several different combinations along the defensive line so far during training camp, and many of the team's defensive ends have lined up both inside and outside. Baker was an end in the Redskins' 3-4 defense but probably won't move out further than a five technique in Tampa Bay. Keep an eye on which situations the Buccaneers are using their standout free agent in.

3.  S Justin Evans
The Bucs' second-round draft pick finally stepped in with the first-team defense on Monday as Tampa Bay continues to shuffle their lineup in search of the best 11-man unit. Evans saw a few first-team reps at safety and J.J. Wilcox played the majority of practice as a starter alongside Chris Conte. His progress had been slowed by missing time during the spring, but it appears Evans is ready to begin making contributions on the defensive side of the ball.
