BUCCANEERS SIGN BENTON WHITLEY TO PRACTICE SQUAD

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today signed outside linebacker Benton Whitley to the team's practice squad and released practice squad nose tackle Desmond Watson.

Additionally, running back Josh Williams has been placed on the Reserve/Suspended List.

Whitley (6-4, 255) originally entered the league as a college free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in May of 2022. He has appeared in six career games between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants, including making his NFL debut against the Buccaneers in Week 1 of the 2023 season. In his career, Whitley has recorded one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. He played collegiately at Holy Cross University (2017–21), appearing in 42 career games and registering 111 tackles (26.5 for loss), 15.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. His most productive season came in 2021, when he was named first-team All-Patriot League after recording career highs in tackles (49), tackles for loss (11.5) and sacks (5.5). The Springfield, Massachusetts, native will wear No. 56 for Tampa Bay.
