The Tampa Bay Buccaneers today signed wide receiver Jaden Smith and running back Owen Wright. In addition, the Buccaneers have waived/injured safety Marcus Banks and running back DJ Williams.
Smith (6-6, 210) played collegiately at Montana State University (2019–21), Tarleton State University (2022–23), and the University of Nevada (2024), where he combined to appear in 45 career games and recorded 138 receptions for 2,100 yards and 20 touchdowns. He received All-Mountain West Honorable Mention recognition in 2024 when he appeared in 13 games and posted career bests in receptions (62) and receiving yards (849). Smith was a tryout participant in the club's rookie minicamp in May. The Fort Worth, Texas, native will wear No. 80 for Tampa Bay.
Wright (5-11, 225) comes to Tampa Bay from the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent the 2024 season on Injured Reserve. He played collegiately at William & Mary (2017–20) and Monmouth University (2021–22), totaling 45 career games played and 355 carries for 1,403 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. Wright was named first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association following his 2022 season at Monmouth in which he recorded 72 carries for 304 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is the grandson of former NFL player Brig Owens. The Bethesda, Maryland, native will wear No. 49 for Tampa Bay.
