Freeman Up for NFL Award after Routing Chiefs

Coming off a three-touchdown performance that drove the Bucs to a 38-10 thrashing of Kansas City on Sunday, QB Josh Freeman has been nominated for the NFL's Air Player of the Week Award

On Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers posted their most lopsided win in five years, pounding the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-10.  Quarterback Josh Freeman, leading the charge for an offense that racked up 463 net yards, was one of the most dominant players on the field this weekend, not only at Raymond James Stadium but throughout the NFL.

At least, that's the opinion of the league, which has named Freeman one of its three nominees for the Air Player of the Week Award for Week Six.  Freeman will compete for the award with quarterbacks Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, and the winner will be determined by NFL fans.

Fans can vote for the Air Player of the Week here on NFL.com from 9:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday through 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday. The winner will be announced Friday evening on NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com.

Freeman threw two touchdown passes to Vincent Jackson and a third to Mike Williams in the win over Kansas City, completing 15 of 26 tosses for 328 yards.  He racked up 12.62 yards per pass attempt, an outstanding average that ranks as the third-highest mark in a single game in franchise history.  It is also the third-highest yards-per-attempt figure by any quarterback in the NFL this season, and just 0.03 behind the top mark of 12.65 set by Carolina's Cam Newton against New Orleans in Week Two.

Freeman went deep with great success against the Chiefs, starting early with a 62-yard touchdown pass to Williams in the first quarter.  With another 62-yarder to Tiquan Underwood in the fourth period, he became the first Buccaneer QB with two completions of 60 or more yards in the same game since 1998.  Now Freeman needs Tampa Bay fans to go just as deep into the ballot box for him to walk away with the NFL's Air Player of the Week award.  Vote now!
