QB Carr Next to Visit One Buc

On Friday, the Buccaneers confirmed reports that Fresno State QB Derek Carr has scheduled a pre-draft visit to One Buccaneer Place, set for next Wednesday

Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' headquarters next Wednesday as one of the 30 prospects the team is allowed to bring in during the weeks prior to the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Buccaneers confirmed Carr's upcoming visit on Friday after it was reported by several sources.  Earlier in the week, the team also confirmed reports of three other visits by quarterback prospects: Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater on Monday, Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo on Tuesday and Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel on Thursday.

With the first round of the draft now less than four weeks away, the Buccaneers and their 31 fellow teams are in the final stages of their scouting work.  Scouts and coaches had an opportunity to interview hundreds of prospects at the Senior Bowl, the Scouting Combine and various on-campus Pro Days, but the prospect visits to team headquarters allow for more thorough meetings.

The 6-3, 220-pound Carr followed his older brother, David, to Fresno State and now he hopes to match his brother's first-round draft status, as well.  David Carr was the first pick in the 2002 NFL Draft and the first player ever chosen by the expansion Houston Texans.  Derek Carr is, in fact, viewed as a potential first-round pick by many draft analysts; of the seven analysts who have posted first-round mock drafts on, four have Carr going in the first round.

After a redshirt season in 2010, Carr started the next three years at Fresno State and amassed 12,843 passing yards and 113 touchdowns against just 24 interceptions.  He was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2012 after completing 344 of 511 passes (67.3%) for 4,104 yards, 37 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a passer rating of 155.9.  Carr then capped his FSU career in 2013 with 5,082 yards and 50 touchdown passes.
