TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS QUOTE SHEET 9-15-23

HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES

(On going up against Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields)

"It's tough. As fast as he is, he's faster than most of our guys. We've got to rally to the ball and try to hustle."

(On what will be a defensive point of emphasis this week against Chicago's offense)

"Obviously, containing the quarterback. They've got a great run game, they can throw the ball down the field – so, it's a little bit of everything. We've just got to play smart, sound football."

(On the status of CB Carlton Davis III)

"Carlton is probably going to be out this game."

(On the status of DB Christian Izien)

"He's got to pass a few tests. We'll see. We're hopeful."

(On Carlton Davis III's injury)

"It's a toe."

(On CB Zyon McCollum's progress in year two compared to as a rookie)

"He's ready to play. We've got all the confidence in the world in him. He had a great summer, he had a great spring. He's practicing [well]. We don't have a problem playing him."

(On if a linebacker could be elevated from the practice squad for this week's game)

"Yeah, we're going to talk about that inside."

(On what S Antoine Winfield Jr. brings to the defense)

"'Win' is a good football player. I can't take credit for all that – he was good when he came in. I just saw him and Jason [Licht] and them saw him and we brought him in. He brings a lot of leadership – he's a lot more vocal this year, coming into his own. The tackling speaks for itself, but he's a heady football player. He's sharp, he can get from A to B [really] fast. He just understands ball – that's something you can't teach. If you already understand football and you understand the scheme and what's happening to you, you can play fast – he plays fast."

(On if Winfield Jr. played with a chip on his shoulder in Minnesota)

"He's played the same way since he got in the league."

(On having players in the final year of their contract and if that motivates them)

"Not really. Sometimes. It's off the beaten path. As a coach, you try to get them ready to play and you want them to play their best all the time, no matter what."

(On if there is an update to the status of DL Calijah Kancey)

"Not at this time. He's the same. He hasn't practiced the whole week."

WIDE RECEIVER MIKE EVANS

(On the offense starting slow but then getting going)

"I'm onto the next game now, but it was a good, hard-fought win against a quality opponent. We didn't play our best ball but we won, so there's obviously something positive to be taken from that."

(On what he learned about QB Baker Mayfield in Week 1)

"What I've already known: he's a true competitor, does whatever it takes for the team to win."

(On how much his touchdown got the offense feeling good about themselves)

"It [felt] good. It was something that we worked on a lot, actually. Baker [Mayfield] gave me the signal and we executed it versus a really good look. It worked out for us."

(On him not celebrating his touchdown)

"I had a celebration planned and everything, but on that drive I kind of hit my knee on the turf a little bit and it was a little stiff, so I was like, 'Alright, let me just go and get to the sideline [real] quick.' I was kind of tired, as well, so I was trying to get some rest."

(On if he'll save that celebration for another game)

"I can't do it unless we play the Vikings again."

(On going up against the Chicago Bears defense)

"I just look at guys I'm playing against – corners, obviously I look at them. I look at the safeties and how they're playing. They've got a good group. I've played against them a few times in the past. [Jaylon] Johnson is a really good corner – he's going to make it [really] hard on us. We've got to put our best foot forward."
