Bucs' Division Title Defense Begins on the Road | 2025 Schedule Released

The Buccaneers will play two road games and make the first of their four prime-time appearances before they play a home game in 2025, as they begin the quest to win a record fifth straight NFC South title

CreamHorizontal-UPDATE

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will need to be road warriors in 2025 if they want to match the 2-0 start they have produced in each of the last four seasons. The Buccaneers' efforts to become the first NFC South team ever to win five straight division titles begins with a pair of road trips, to Atlanta in Week One and Houston in Week Two.

The visit to NRG Stadium for a Monday Night Football matchup with the Texans on September 15 is the first of four nationally-televised prime time games the Buccaneers drew on their 2025 schedule, matching their total from last season. Teams can be scheduled for a maximum of five prime time games in the original release, though that total can exceeded with the possibility of games being flexed later in the season.

The Buccaneers will also play a Monday night game at Detroit in Week Seven (Oct. 20), a Sunday night game against the Rams in Los Angeles in Week 12 (Nov. 23) and a Thursday night game at home against the Falcons in Week 15 (Dec. 11). Their Week 18 home game against Carolina, which will fall on the weekend of January 3-4, has not been scheduled yet, but nine of the other 16 games are currently scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on a Sunday.

Tampa Bay will have every opportunity to control its own fate in trying to win a fifth straight NFC South crown – and thereby break the record of four they share with the 2017-20 New Orleans Saints – as four of their last five games are against division foes. That includes all three of their home games against NFC South opponents: against New Orleans in Week 14, Atlanta in Week 15 and Carolina in Week 18. A Week 16 trip to Carolina means two of Tampa Bay's last three games will be against a Panthers team that is 14-37 over the last three seasons but coming off a promising finish to 2024.

The NFL introduced an enhanced schedule in 2021 that covers 17 games per team over 18 weeks, this year concluding on January 4. The Buccaneers get their bye week almost directly in the middle of that schedule, as they are off in Week Nine after a Week Eight trip to New Orleans. The "17th Game" of the enhanced schedule is a fifth interconference matchup, with the Buccaneers drawing a trip to Houston because both teams finished in first place in their respective divisions in 2024. In 2025, all 17th games will be hosted by AFC teams.

Here are some additional notes regarding the Buccaneers' 2025 schedule:

  • It does not appear as if the Buccaneers will have to worry about severely cold games in 2025. Their trip to Buffalo is scheduled for Week 11, with the game falling on November 16. After that, the only possibility of a frigid outing is in Charlotte in Week 16, when the Bucs play the Panthers on December 21. The Buccaneers are at home four for of their last six outings, and their only other trip besides Charlotte in that span is a hop downstate to Miami in Week 17.
  • The Buccaneers will be trying to win their fifth straight season opener in Week One at Atlanta. They are one of only four teams in the NFL to have an active streak of four straight Week One victories.
  • Tampa Bay will have a three-game homestand in the second half of the season, with consecutive visits from Arizona, New Orleans and Atlanta in Weeks 13-15. This will be the first time the Bucs have had three consecutive games at Raymond James Stadium since a run against Baltimore, the Rams and Seattle in Weeks 8-10.
  • In a strange coincidence, the Buccaneers will play a home game against the Philadelphia in Week Four for the second season in a row and in the first month for the third year in a row. The Buccaneers lost to the Eagles in Week Three of the 2023 season but fired back with a 33-16 win over Philadelphia in Week Four of last year's campaign, with both games at Raymond James Stadium. The Eagles are the only team in the NFC with more total wins than the Buccaneers since 2020, with a one-win edge at 58-7.
  • The Eagles, of course, are the defending NFL champions after defeating Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX last February. This will mark the third time in the last four seasons that the Buccaneers' are slated to face the reigning Super Bowl champs. They defeated the champion Rams at home in Week Nine of the 2022 season and lost to the champion Chiefs on the road (in overtime) in Week Nine of last season. This is actually the seventh time in the last 10 seasons that the Bucs' schedule includes a game against the reigning champs.
  • The Buccaneers' Week Seven Monday night game in Detroit will mark their fifth game in Detroit since 2019, playoffs included. The Bucs are 3-1 in the first four of those games. In that same span, Tampa Bay has not made more than three trips to any other opposing NFL venue outside of their NFC South foes.
  • Tampa Bay will begin its season with consecutive road games for the first time since 2022. The Buccaneers did open that 2022 season with successful trips to Dallas and New Orleans, but that is the only time the team has ever started a season 2-0 on the road.
  • The Buccaneers will get two opportunities to capture their first victory ever in an NFL city. Tampa Bay is 0-3 all-time in games played in both Houston and Buffalo; the Bucs visit the Texans in Week Two and the Bills in Week 11.
  • The Bucs will finish the regular season with a matchup against the Panthers for the third time in a span of five seasons. Tampa Bay concluded its 2021 season with a 41-7 win at home against Carolina, and wrapped up the 2023 campaign with a 9-0 victory in Charlotte.
  • Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles will face the New York Jets for the first time since he ascended to his current position with the team in 2022. Bowles was the Jets' head coach from 2015-18. When the Buccaneers last played the Jets, scoring a comeback 24-21 win in the Meadowlands in Week 17 of the 2021 season, Bowles was in his third season as Tampa Bay's defensive coordinator under then-Head Coach Bruce Arians.
