The Buccaneers will be practicing against a new team when they travel to Jacksonville for joint practices with the Jaguars on Wednesday and Thursday. But for Jameis Winston, it will be an opportunity to work against a few familiar faces. Two of Winston's former teammates, Jalen Ramsey and Telvin Smith, are members of the Jaguars' defense. Also close friends, Winston spent time working against Ramsey and Smith while at Florida State.
"Oh, I'm very excited," Winston said about practicing in Jacksonville. "One reason is because I get to reunite with my teammates again, with Jalen, Telvin is going to be running his mouth the whole time, I already can expect it. But that's what I love, and that's why I'm really excited, just to be playing against him. Just to get that feeling back because I know he's very passionate and I know he's going to bring it and he's not going to take any plays off."
Together, Winston, Ramsey and Smith helped Florida State win the 2013 BCS National Championship game. Both Winston and Ramsey were first-round draft picks in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Smith was selected in the fifth round of the 2014 draft.
The Buccaneers will have two practices against the Jaguars on Wednesday and Thursday before meeting in Week 2 of the preseason on Saturday night in Jacksonville.
The Buccaneers will return to One Buccaneer Place for a final week of training camp on Monday. There will be just one practice open to the public before camp wraps up. That practice will be on August 24th and will be a joint practice with the Browns.
