The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the No. 1 passing offense in the NFL in Week Six as the San Francisco 49ers come to town. Both clubs have started the year with a 4-1 record, leading their respective divisions in the NFC. This showdown will mark the 28th all-time meeting between the two teams and Tampa Bay will vie for its first win over the Niners since 2018. The Bucs are coming off a thrilling 38-35 win over the Seahawks in Week Five in which Baker Mayfield completed 29 of 33 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions for a 134.7 passer rating. He racked up several accolades for his prolific play and this week, the Bucs will face Christian McCaffrey, Fred Warner and Trent Williams – three of the best in the NFL at their positions. Here are five Buccaneers to watch following kickoff:
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith recorded his first career fumble recovery against the Seahawks and added six tackles and two passes defensed in Week Five. He now has four career games with multiple passes defensed and leads the Bucs in tackles with 39. His prowess near the line of scrimmage allows Antoine Winfield Jr. to showcase his range as the free safety in the post. Smith has been one of the Bucs most consistent defenders in 2025 and had several hustle plays against the Seahawks, including one where he diagnosed and raced across the field to make the tackle. Smith possesses great burst downhill, he triggers quickly against the run and has great route recognition. For the 49ers, Christian McCaffrey has played a key role in the passing game, leading San Francisco in receptions (39) and receiving yards (387). He makes an impact on screens and can line up in the slot. McCaffrey is the 49ers YAC threat and the Bucs will have to be disciplined in their run fits to limit his ability in space. He stutters his feet for cuts and has the change-of-direction to elude defenders and quickly works downhill. McCaffrey presents a mismatch out of the slot and is quick out of breaks.
Emeka Egbuka
Buccaneers' rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka has turned heads in 2025. He caught seven passes for 163 yards and his fifth touchdown of the season against Seattle and is fourth among all NFL players with 445 receiving yards. He is tied for second in touchdown catches, while his 17.8 yards per reception is third best in the league. Egbuka is one of four players with 20-plus receptions, 300-plus receiving yards and five-plus receiving touchdowns through his first five career games over the last 50 years, joining Ja'Marr Chase, Randy Moss and Roy Williams. He is a savvy route runner and understands how to use head fakes and calculated footwork to manipulate coverage. Egbuka commands the catch point and pairs an outstanding catch radius with ball-tracking skills. The 49ers have two rookies in the secondary in Upton Stout and Marques Sigle and Egbuka will look to make his presence felt against the Niners in Week Six to further solidify his case for Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Rachaad White
Tampa Bay will face one of the best in the game over the last decade at the linebacker position in Fred Warner. He leads the 49ers in tackles with 50 (third in the NFL) and is touted for his coverage ability in both man and zone. The future Hall of Famer and All-Pro sets the tone in the middle of their defense and forces opposing teams to gameplan around his ability. Warner knows how to maximize leverage and he is quick to diagnose and responds to the quarterback's eyes. He also added eight run stuffs through the club's first four games and plays an integral role in San Francisco's run defense. Rachaad White took over the starting role in the Bucs' backfield in Week Five with Bucky Irving sidelined and he may be called upon again against the 49ers if Irving is not ready to suit up with foot and shoulder injuries. White posted 71 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in Week Five. He moved the chains in critical situations, including a 12-yard run from third-and-seven on the team's game-winning drive against Seattle that set up Chase McLaughlin's kick. He plays with superb contact balance and is a security blanket for Mayfield on checkdowns.
Yaya Diaby
Yaya Diaby has consistently moved quarterbacks off their spot in 2025 with pressures and has quickly shed single blocks. Diaby, a power rusher, gets up the field quickly and has the lateral burst to make an impact on twists/stunts in Todd Bowles' system. He quickly separates at the point of attack with a lethal punch and on Sunday, he will face one of the most athletic tackles in the game in the Niners' Trent Williams. Williams drives the 49ers rushing attack and anchors the unit. He is an agile lineman who looks to drive opponents into the ground with a fiery disposition. Williams mirrors rushers well and has effective blitz awareness. He has short range explosion and has played 100% of the 49ers' snaps thus far in 2025. This will be a critical battle in the trenches in Week Six.
Cade Otton
Cade Otton accumulated four receptions for 81 yards in Week Five, matching his second-highest regular season receiving total in a single game, trailing only his career-high 100 receiving yards on 10/21/24 against Baltimore. Through the first four weeks of the 2025 slate, Otton has primarily served in a blocking role to assist the offensive line on blitz pickups or on chip-and-releases. Against Seattle, he showcased his versatility on a flag route on the opening possession for a gain of 28 yards and he took advantage of coverage voids over the middle of the field versus zone coverage. He made a key block for Rachaad White to cross the goal line and played a pivotal role in both the Bucs' rushing and aerial attack in Week Five. The underneath threat and instinctive route runner will strive to continue his stellar streak against the Niners' defense.
