After previous trips to Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Africa, Derrick Brooks will take his current Brooks Bunch on a trip through the Western United States

Through his "Brooks' Bunch – Wild, Wild West" program, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl linebacker Derrick Brooks will accompany 25 members of the Ponce De Leon and Ybor City Boys & Girls Clubs on a 12-day tour of the western United States. The group will travel the countryside from July 7 – 18, visiting places in Arizona, Nevada, California and Oregon.

Since January of this year, members of the Ponce De Leon and Ybor City Clubs who were interested in earning a spot on the trip have studied such topics as the War of 1812, Lewis and Clark, Indian resettlement, the railroad system, the Gold Rush and the Buffalo Soldiers during bimonthly workshops taught by Hillsborough County teachers at the participating Boys & Girls Clubs. To earn a spot on Brooks' western expedition, Boys & Girls Club members were required to complete a variety of assignments that tested their knowledge of the Western settlement and present essays on what they learned to a panel of judges. All assignments, along with the students' attendance and behavioral marks during the classes, were tabulated and counted towards a final grade for the class. Students who completed their assignments, demonstrated good behavior and maintained their grades in school will make the trip with Brooks.

While out West, the travelers will visit the landmarks they studied in Wild, Wild West class, including the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge. The students will also have the opportunity to pan for gold in a gold mine, visit a ghost town, tour Alcatraz and see Red Wood trees in Muir Woods National Park.

Brooks sponsors educational field trips annually to reward youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs who have exhibited hard work, good grades and exemplary behavior in school. The Wild, Wild West trip will mark the fifth such trip made by the Brooks' Bunch. Past Brooks' Bunch trips have included tours of Africa, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Ft. Lauderdale.
