Award-winning East Bay High School coach has his squad off to a 6-1 start in 2001

East Bay High School Head Coach Brian Thornton was honored as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers High School Football Coach of the Week on Wednesday, October 10 at One Buccaneer Place.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Tony Dungy congratulated Coach Thornton during an award presentation Wednesday afternoon before practice at One Buccaneer Place. Thornton was presented with a framed "Coach of the Week" award, a football autographed by Buccaneers Head Coach Tony Dungy, a $500 donation to his football program and Buccaneers T-shirts for his staff and players.

Since taking over at East Bay, coach Thornton has led the Indians to a record of 46-33, including a mark of 42-17 over the last six years. This year, the Indians have stormed out of the gate with a 6-1 record, recording three shutouts in the process.

Prior to becoming the head coach at East Bay, Thornton, a 1986 graduate of William Penn, was an assistant coach at King High (1986), Brandon High (1987) and East Bay (1988-1992).

Thornton was selected by a panelist of News Channel 8 and Buccaneers representatives after being nominated on the WFLA.com website.
