Coach Jon Davis' Cougars are 7-0 this season

Countryside Head Coach John Davis was honored as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers High School Football Coach of the Week on Wednesday at One Buccaneer Place.

Coach Davis became head coach at Clearwater's Countryside High in 2002 and has since led the Cougars to three straight state playoff appearances. The Cougars currently boast a 7-0 record, and they have outscored their opponents by a combined total of 239-84. Countryside travels to Dunedin High this Friday to take on the Falcons.

Davis was presented with a framed Coach of the Week certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, General Manager Bruce Allen and Head Coach Jon Gruden. He also received a football autographed by Gruden and a Coach of the Week cap. NFL Charities will award $1,000 to the Countryside football program in Davis' honor.

"To get any kind of honor from the Bucs is huge," said Davis. "Our kids have done a great job, and we're really proud of them so far."
