Bucs-Falcons Inactives | Vita Vea Cleared to Play

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without for key players for their 2025 season-opening game at Atlanta, but the one member of their roster who was a question mark heading into the weekend, nose tackle Vita Vea, is good to go.

Vea returned to full practice participation on Friday after being held out on Wednesday and Thursday due to a foot issue. He finished second on the team last season with 7.0 sacks and was also one of the most important figures in the NFL's fourth-ranked run defense. Unfortunately, wide receiver Chris Godwin and All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs, who missed all of training camp but avoided starting the season on the reserve/PUP list, are not yet ready to return. In addition, safety Christian Izien (oblique) and rookie cornerback Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) are also out for Sunday's game.

The Buccaneers and Falcons submitted their list of inactives at 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff of their shared season-opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. After elevating Gotsis and Jordan, the Buccaneers had 55 available players and thus had to name seven inactives to get down to the game-day limit of 48. The Falcons elevated wide receiver David Sills and running back Carlos Washington from their practice squad. That put their game-day roster at 55, meaning they also had to designate seven inactives.

Atlanta had to put starting right tackle Kaleb McGary on injured reserve in late August but otherwise have a fairly clean injury report to start the regular season. Safety DeMarcco Hellams and tackle Jack Nelson, both reserves, have been ruled out for the game. The biggest question mark for the Falcons in Week One was wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who is dealing with a shoulder injury. Mooney has been declared inactive for the game, along with injured backups safety DeMarcco Hellams and tackle Jack Nelson.
