The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a pair of moves on their practice squad Wednesday, signing fourth-year outside linebacker Benton Whitley and releasing rookie defensive lineman Desmond Watson. In addition, rookie running back Josh Williams has been placed on the reserve/suspended list.
The moves leave the Buccaneers with one open spot on the 53-man roster heading into the week of practice prior to Sunday's game in Buffalo.
Whitley most recently went to training camp with the Arizona Cardinals in August, though he was released during the final roster cuts. He has previously appeared in a total of six regular season games with the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants, recording one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 after playing his college ball at Holy Cross. In 42 career games at Holy Cross, Whitley produced 11 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 26.5 tacklers for loss, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.
Watson signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Florida in May. He was placed on the active/non-football injury list for the duration of training camp before being waived in late August. Watson returned to the Bucs' practice squad on September 23.
Williams made the Buccaneers' active roster as an undrafted free agent out of LSU. He has appeared in three of the team's first nine games, rushing four times for 11 yards and returning five kickoffs for 129 yards.
